Their beams can be focused from a broad flood to a spot. They are high performance torches, suitable for rugged service but they sell widely on the domestic market on account of their beautiful surface which is a pleasure to see and touch.\n\nAnthony \"Tony\" Maglica (Croatian: Ante Maglica) (born 1930) is the owner and founder of Mag Instrument Inc, the company that manufactures the Maglite flashlight which was designed by Maglica. The Maglite is a powerful and durable flashlight that has become standard issue gear used by police officers in the USA. ","physicalDescription":"The torch is made up of sixteen components. The tail cap has a slightly bevelled edge, a milled collar, a rubber O ring and screw thread. The inside of the cap contains a spare lamp wrapped in a piece of sponge rubber for protection. The battery spring sits within a chamfered, internal rim. The main part of the body is a cylindrical barrel. The middle section is finely cross hatched to facilitate the grip. The switch is near the head and is covered by a domed rubber seal which sits within an oval scooped depression. The head screws on to the end of the barrel and is of greater diameter to the barrel, gradually reducing to that of the main barrel at the rear. A milled collar, similar to that on the tail cap, is just below the rim of the head. The lamp sits in the end of the barrel and is secured by a retaining collar. The head has a rubber O ring round the threaded rim. The reflector, of plastic with a mirrored concave surface sits within the rim. This is covered by a clear lens, retained in the face cap by another O ring which in turn sits within the threaded internal rim of the cap. In operation, the beam can be changed from an intense spotlight to a wide flood beam by rotating the head.","artistMakerPerson":[{"name":{"text":"Anthony Maglica","id":"A21359"},"association":{"text":"designer","id":"x36960"},"note":""}],"artistMakerOrganisations":[{"name":{"text":"Mag Instrument Inc.","id":"A21360"},"association":{"text":"manufacturer","id":"x33306"},"note":""}],"artistMakerPeople":[],"materials":[{"text":"aluminium","id":"x36420"},{"text":"plastic","id":"AAT14570"}],"techniques":[{"text":"anodized","id":"AAT54025"}],"materialsAndTechniques":"Anodized aluminium","categories":[{"text":"Lighting","id":"THES48925"},{"text":"Metalwork","id":"THES48920"},{"text":"Product design","id":"THES49025"}],"styles":[],"collectionCode":{"text":"MET","id":"THES48599"},"images":["2008BT4510"],"imageResolution":"low","galleryLocations":[{"current":{"text":"CA008","id":"THES388538"},"free":"","case":"","shelf":"","box":""}],"partTypes":[[{"text":"Torch","id":""}]],"contentWarnings":[{"apprise":"","note":""}],"placesOfOrigin":[{"place":{"text":"Ontario","id":"x41776"},"association":{"text":"made","id":"x28654"},"note":""}],"productionDates":[{"date":{"text":"1983","earliest":"1983-01-01","latest":"1983-12-31"},"association":{"text":"made","id":"x28654"},"note":""}],"associatedObjects":[],"creditLine":"","dimensions":[{"dimension":"Length","value":"22.5","unit":"cm","qualifier":"","date":{"text":"","earliest":null,"latest":null},"part":"","note":""},{"dimension":"Diameter","value":"5.5","unit":"cm","qualifier":"","date":{"text":"","earliest":null,"latest":null},"part":"","note":""}],"dimensionsNote":"","marksAndInscriptions":[{"content":"SOLITAIRE MFG BY MAG INSTRUMENT / ONTARIO CALIFORNIA USA","inscriber":{"name":{"text":"","id":""},"association":{"text":"","id":""}},"date":{"text":"","earliest":null,"latest":null},"description":"","interpretation":"","language":"","medium":"","method":"","position":"","script":"","translation":"","transliteration":"","type":"","note":"Around the rim of the head assembly."}],"objectHistory":"","historicalContext":"","briefDescription":"Anodised aluminium and glass, USA, 1983, designed by Anthony Maglica, manufactured by MAG Instrument Inc.","bibliographicReferences":[],"production":"","productionType":{"text":"","id":""},"contentDescription":"","contentPlaces":[],"associatedPlaces":[],"contentPerson":[],"associatedPerson":[],"contentOrganisations":[],"associatedOrganisations":[],"contentPeople":[],"associatedPeople":[],"contentEvents":[],"associatedEvents":[],"contentOthers":[],"contentConcepts":[],"contentLiteraryRefs":[],"galleryLabels":[{"text":"Draft label for twentieth century gallery:\r\n\r\nTORCHES: FROM THE MAGLITE RANGE\r\nDesigned by Anthony Maglica (North American)\r\nMade by Mag Instrument Inc., 1983; still in production\r\nAluminium\r\n\r\nMade of anodized, precision-machined, aircraft aluminium, Maglite torches are shock and water resistant.
