This ensemble of wrap-around strapless dress and trousers is from Osman’s Autumn/Winter 2016 collection, shown at London Fashion Week in February 2016. The poppy flower was the motif of the collection, with several looks featuring poppy prints or, as in the case of this ensemble, embellishments in a poppy flower design. The embroidery on the dress was carried out by specialist artisans in India and took four craftsman a total of ten days to produce.  \r\n\r\nThe British actress Emma Watson wore this ensemble to the White House Correspondents’ Dinner in April 2016. The ensemble was on display as part of The Fabric of India at Cincinnati Art Museum (19 October, 2018 – 6 January, 2019) and at The Ringling Museum, Florida (7 July – 13 October, 2019). International designers as well as British high street brands use Indian skills to produce garments with hand-beading and embroidery. Fashion brands sometimes choose not to promote their production in India as this is often associated with cheap mass-manufactured garments and the exploitation of labour. The designers displayed here have cultivated mutually beneficial business relationships with the Indian artisans they employ. They appreciate the great diversity and quality of skills available in India and the ability to create innovative designs for an international clientele.\r\n\nPOPPY DRESS\r\nEmma Watson wore this dress to the White House Correspondents’ dinner in 2016.
