Watercolour drawing of a man in late 17th century armour, standing in a landscape with trees to left. He wears plate armour of breastplate, arm guards and tassets over a deep blue coat, and black thigh boots with spurs, and has a light brown periwig, a lace jabot and a white sash fringed in gold. He holds a truncheon in his right hand and rests his left hand on a plumed helmet. The date of the costume was inscribed in ink in the upper left hand corner, but most of the corner is now missing and the details are lost. Costume details are written at the left hand side, running from the upper left hand corner to lower left. Signed.","artistMakerPerson":[{"name":{"text":"Wilhelm","id":"A4703"},"association":{"text":"artist","id":"AAT25103"},"note":""}],"artistMakerOrganisations":[],"artistMakerPeople":[],"materials":[{"text":"watercolour","id":"x33202"},{"text":"ink","id":"AAT15012"},{"text":"paper","id":"x30308"}],"techniques":[{"text":"drawing (image-making)","id":"AAT54196"},{"text":"painting (image-making)","id":"AAT54216"}],"materialsAndTechniques":"Watercolour and pen and ink ","categories":[{"text":"Entertainment & Leisure","id":"THES48959"},{"text":"Opera","id":"THES263971"},{"text":"Designs","id":"THES48968"}],"styles":[],"collectionCode":{"text":"T&P","id":"THES48602"},"images":["2018KX5427"],"imageResolution":"high","galleryLocations":[{"current":{"text":"003","id":"THES356606"},"free":"","case":"","shelf":"","box":""}],"partTypes":[[{"text":"costume design","id":"AAT163423"}]],"contentWarnings":[{"apprise":"","note":""}],"placesOfOrigin":[{"place":{"text":"London","id":"x28980"},"association":{"text":"made","id":"x28654"},"note":""}],"productionDates":[{"date":{"text":"1886","earliest":"1886-01-01","latest":"1886-12-31"},"association":{"text":"made","id":"x28654"},"note":""}],"associatedObjects":[],"creditLine":"Given by Dame Bridget D'Oyly Carte","dimensions":[{"dimension":"Height","value":"28.2","unit":"cm","qualifier":"","date":{"text":"","earliest":null,"latest":null},"part":"","note":""},{"dimension":"Width","value":"21.7","unit":"cm","qualifier":"","date":{"text":"","earliest":null,"latest":null},"part":"","note":""}],"dimensionsNote":"","marksAndInscriptions":[{"content":"'Steel & gold armour royal purple velvet Coat and gold embroidered / sword belt.
