These drawings of silk designs are proof of the arrival of some of these motifs, found in various contexts in the West (especially the Buddhist motif of Three Hares, which is found in medieval architectural bosses in England and Europe) into Europe via the silk road. \n\r\nThe leaf comes from an album that once belonged to the Venetian painter Jacopo Bellini (d. 1450), whose wife was Lucchese, with an uncle in the silk trade. \r\n","physicalDescription":"Design (recto) for a woven silk with a strong diagonal pattern repeat of vine leaves,  alternating with a griffin-like creatures, part eagle part dragon, and a a hound-like creature.
