Gold was used only in the imperial courts or in the homes of the wealthiest urban residents.\r\nWe do not know what was served in or eaten from this dish, but the small size suggests that it might have been used as a serving dish for sweetmeats, pickles, or for an individual helping of a meal, in which case it was likely to have been part of a large service. \r\nThe lotus design in the centre is unlikely to have any link to the food served in it even though both lotus roots and seeds were common ingredients.","physicalDescription":"Gold dish with sloping sides and flat rim.
