The original is in a cemetery next to a remote and historic hilltop mosque at Kala Koreysh in Dagestan, Russia. The site has been recorded by Factum Arte as part of a project to digitise the cultural heritage of Dagestan. Using photogrammetry, hundreds of overlapping digital photographs covering every area of the grave stone were mapped with imaging software to create a moveable 3-dimensional image on screen. A CNC milling machine was then programmed to carve this new version of the monument in limestone.
