He worked for the family business, Dunn's in Bromley, and after it was bombed during World War 2, rebuilt the business in new premises designed by his friend, the modernist architect Bertram Carter. Dunn encouraged and supported contemporary design and young designers and sold furniture by Marcel Breuer, Serge Chermayeff, and Alvar Aalto; fabric by Donald Bros., Edinburgh Weavers, and Warners; ceramics by Wedgwood and Michael Cardew.\n\nHis own simple furniture was produced by Goodearl Brothers, William Barlett, Keen of High Wycombe, Stones of Banbury, and in Dunn’s own workshops.\r\n\r\nIn 1936, he became a member of the Council of Industrial Design and in 1938, (with Crofton Gane and Gordon Russell) established the Good Furnishing Group to select good Modern designs available at reasonable prices, and became its chair in 1953. In 1952, he was appointed managing director of the Council of Industrial Design. Dunn’s of Bromley became part of the Heal’s Group.\r\n\r\nIn 1974, he was appointed Fellow of the Society of Industrial Artists and, in 1976, Commander of the British Empire.
