Here he found inspiration for his subsequent artistic career in the paper patterns with their dense palimpsests of overlapping lines and annotations which comprise a kind of code for describing and analysing the shape of a human body, and each completely individual. He has since worked with historical domestic dressmaking patterns of various kinds.\r\nIn 2017 he was commissioned by a London design studio to make a series of collages depicting Frida Kahlo in costumes of his own invention and as a result he was also commissioned by V&A Enterprises to produce several works to be reproduced as prints for sale in the V&A shop during the Frida Kahlo exhibition in 2018. He made a series of 12 collages in which the figure of Frida (based on her iconic self-portraits) is presented in costumes invented by Narielwalla, and referencing different styles and cultures, made up from details cut from commercially available printed patterned papers, applied to pieces cut from sheets of annotated sewing patterns, some old, some contemporary.
