Wood with metal fittings and other mixed materials. The lantern was originally designed to be powered by oxyhydrogen, but has been converted to electricity at some later date. It has an iron lining and two carry bars at each side, and a plaque which reads 'POLYTECHNIC Young Mens Christian Institute. 309 Regent St. London. W.' One lens is missing and the other two are not original. There would have been a curtain running from a rail at the back of the lantern to hide the workings. The front of the base has a decorative panel of flowers.","artistMakerPerson":[],"artistMakerOrganisations":[{"name":{"text":"W. C.
