Such a combination may have been especially well received in America, where many did not react favourably to Art Nouveau’s wilder statements: In 1901 the <i> Jewellers’ Circular and Horological Review</i> commented that some pieces of Art Nouveau jewellery were perhaps ‘more fitted for the case of the collector than for wear…’.\r\n\r\nThe American market did appreciate the use of vibrantly coloured gemstones, like these demantoid garnets. Gems sourced from the United States itself were particularly popular.","physicalDescription":"Gold brooch set with freshwater pearls, diamonds and demantoid garnets","artistMakerPerson":[{"name":{"text":"Unknown","id":"A1848"},"association":{"text":"","id":""},"note":""}],"artistMakerOrganisations":[],"artistMakerPeople":[],"materials":[{"text":"gold","id":"AAT11021"},{"text":"pearl","id":"AAT11827"},{"text":"diamond","id":"AAT11084"},{"text":"garnet","id":"AAT11097"}],"techniques":[],"materialsAndTechniques":"Gold set with freshwater pearls, diamonds and demantoid garnets","categories":[{"text":"Accessories","id":"THES48998"},{"text":"Metalwork","id":"THES48920"},{"text":"Jewellery","id":"THES48930"}],"styles":[],"collectionCode":{"text":"MET","id":"THES48599"},"images":["2007BP2985","2007BP2927"],"imageResolution":"high","galleryLocations":[{"current":{"text":"91","id":"THES49703"},"free":"","case":"26","shelf":"D","box":"8"}],"partTypes":[[{"text":"brooch","id":""}]],"contentWarnings":[{"apprise":"","note":""}],"placesOfOrigin":[{"place":{"text":"USA","id":"x29333"},"association":{"text":"made","id":"x28654"},"note":""}],"productionDates":[{"date":{"text":"ca. 1900","earliest":"1895-01-01","latest":"1904-12-31"},"association":{"text":"made","id":"x28654"},"note":""}],"associatedObjects":[],"creditLine":"Given by the American Friends of the V&A through the generosity of Patricia V.
