The painting was commissioned by Felix Dennis, one of the editors of OZ magazine, and brings together men and women of all ages who were supporters and detractors of the Hippy era. The three editors are seen naked in the centre of the painting. Demonstrators, including Charles Shaar Murray, Louise Ferrier, Jeff Dexter, Viv Berger, Marsha Rowe and Jenny Kee struggle with police violence. In 1971 the magazine was prosecuted for obscenity, following the publication of a 'Schoolkids' edition', created by teenagers and including the sexual exploits of children's cartoon character, Rupert Bear. In the lower right corner the explicit figure of Rupert, accompanied by Mickey Mouse, can be seen scampering off as if to cause mischief elsewhere.
