Gold jewellery therefore became fashionable and was in great demand.\r\n\r\nTo make the jewels more affordable the amount of precious metal was reduced by using wire, often corded in ornamental patterns. Pieces that appeared chunky were often hollow. The great jewellery houses of the time chose elaborate and playful designs.\r\n\r\nAs gemstones were scarce, they were applied to give just a hint of colour or as small-sized diamonds to create highlights.","physicalDescription":"","artistMakerPerson":[],"artistMakerOrganisations":[{"name":{"text":"Ben Rosenfeld (Jewels) Ltd.","id":"A20755"},"association":{"text":"made","id":"x37726"},"note":""}],"artistMakerPeople":[],"materials":[{"text":"gold","id":"AAT11021"},{"text":"sapphire","id":"AAT11083"}],"techniques":[{"text":"stone setting","id":"x34787"}],"materialsAndTechniques":"Gold with sapphires","categories":[{"text":"Metalwork","id":"THES48920"},{"text":"Jewellery","id":"THES48930"}],"styles":[],"collectionCode":{"text":"MET","id":"THES48599"},"images":["2006AX6053","2006AX6066"],"imageResolution":"low","galleryLocations":[{"current":{"text":"91 (VA)","id":"THES49703"},"free":"","case":"33","shelf":"A","box":"11"}],"partTypes":[[{"text":"Bracelet","id":""}]],"contentWarnings":[{"apprise":"","note":""}],"placesOfOrigin":[{"place":{"text":"London","id":"x28980"},"association":{"text":"made","id":"x28654"},"note":""}],"productionDates":[{"date":{"text":"1960-1","earliest":"1960-01-01","latest":"1961-12-31"},"association":{"text":"made","id":"x28654"},"note":""}],"associatedObjects":[],"creditLine":"The Bettine, Lady Abingdon Collection, bequeathed by Mrs T.R.P.
