Mayer in London propelled her to Hollywood stardom. She was dubbed 'the world's most beautiful woman' and was an immediate hit. Extremely intelligent, despite the fact she had no formal training, in the little spare time afforded to her outside of the gruelling Hollywood studio system she became an inventor. During WWII, alongside her friend, the avant-garde composer George Antheil, she invented an system of frequency hopping that could not be tracked or jammed to aide with the guidance of radio controlled torpedos. It was patented at the time but not used by the military until 1957.
