It was developed by Hannah and Justin Floyd in their hometown of Buckfastleigh in Devon. Solidwool is similar to fibreglass in its structure, but made with wool as the reinforcement and bio-resin as the binder. It can be used in place of injection-moulded plastics and fibreglass. The material is moulded at room temperature, cured in an oven and then polished to finish. The composite is about 60% wool. \n\nThe Solidwool company initially focused on applying the material to furniture manufacture, but has also collaborated with manufacturers of smaller goods that are looking for more environmentally friendly alternatives to plastic, such as glasses manufacturer Cubitts.","physicalDescription":"","artistMakerPerson":[],"artistMakerOrganisations":[{"name":{"text":"Cubitts","id":"AUTH347726"},"association":{"text":"","id":""},"note":""},{"name":{"text":"Solidwool","id":"AUTH347727"},"association":{"text":"","id":""},"note":""}],"artistMakerPeople":[],"materials":[{"text":"Wool","id":"x40131"}],"techniques":[],"materialsAndTechniques":"","categories":[{"text":"Accessories","id":"THES48998"},{"text":"Personal accessories","id":"THES48912"}],"styles":[],"collectionCode":{"text":"T&F","id":"THES48601"},"images":[],"imageResolution":"high","galleryLocations":[{"current":{"text":"005","id":"THES306740"},"free":"","case":"","shelf":"","box":""}],"partTypes":[[{"text":"Glasses","id":"AAT183274"}]],"contentWarnings":[{"apprise":"","note":""}],"placesOfOrigin":[],"productionDates":[{"date":{"text":"2017","earliest":"2017-01-01","latest":"2017-12-31"},"association":{"text":"","id":""},"note":""}],"associatedObjects":[],"creditLine":"Given by Solidwood and Cubitts","dimensions":[],"dimensionsNote":"","marksAndInscriptions":[],"objectHistory":"","historicalContext":"","briefDescription":"Glasses, Cubitts, made from Solidwool (British wool and bio-resin), Devon and London, 2017.","bibliographicReferences":[],"production":"","productionType":{"text":"","id":""},"contentDescription":"","contentPlaces":[],"associatedPlaces":[],"contentPerson":[],"associatedPerson":[],"contentOrganisations":[],"associatedOrganisations":[],"contentPeople":[],"associatedPeople":[],"contentEvents":[],"associatedEvents":[],"contentOthers":[],"contentConcepts":[],"contentLiteraryRefs":[],"galleryLabels":[{"text":"SMART PRODUCTION\r\n\r\nSolidwool combine the wool of British Herdwick sheep with bio-resin to create an alternative to plastics and fibreglass.
