The bodice is edged with bands of black velvet and the whole decorates with an irregular mesh of black, red and grey braids and metallic buttons painted white.\r\n\r\nHommage à la Princesse (Homage to a Princess) was created for the marriage of Prince Rainier SAS to Grace Kelly and dedicated to SAS Princess Grace. It was first performed at the Opera House, Monte Carlo on 18 April 1956 by London’s Festival Ballet. The ballet in 5 movements was choreographed by Michael Charnley to a theme by Anton Dolin to an original score by Stan Kenton\r\nIt was a deliberately youthful and ‘modern’ short ballet (running time 17 minutes) choreographed by Charnley, 'the nearest to a Modern Dance choreographer we have in England’ and used jazz music by Kenton to represent Kelly’s America. As Peter Williams noted in Dance & Dancers June 1956 ‘André Levasseur has already shown that few people designing for ballet today have a better sense of theatre and colour…It seems that Lavasseur not only has a wonderful sense of line, no doubt a legacy of his years with Christian Dior, but also a sense of what is fitting for movement.’\r\n","physicalDescription":"An asymmetrical one-shouldered white synthetic jersey dress with red, white, black and grey pleated wool skirt reflecting the Monegasque national colours.
