The first to be completed was the Blue Building, affectionately known as the Blue Whale, in 1975. The second was the Green Building, in 2006. The Red Building opened in 2011.\r\n\r\nThe small original pastel drawing was greatly enlarged when printed. The print was made by Nash Editions, a fine art digital printers founded in 1991 by Graham Nash (of the rock band Crosby, Stills, Nash and Young), using the new IRIS Graphics 3047 inkjet printer (this printer was donated by Nash to the Smithsonian National Museum of American History in 2005).
