It is one of his series of works celebrating the Moscow State Circus, capturing its joy in its vibrant colours, its constant movement in the freedom of style, and the audience fascination with the danger and showmanship of the flying trapeze artists in its viewpoint. \n\nJake Sutton won the Daily Express National Children’s Painting Competition at the age of seven, and studied painting at the Manchester School of Art and St. Martin’s School of Art, London. He worked with the Royal Ballet at Covent Garden for eighteen months, sketching and painting the Royal Opera House Collection series of works. In 1988 he was commissioned by Royal Mail to paint gymnastics, skiing, tennis and soccer subjects for a set of sporting commemorative stamps issued in 1988. This is one of several of his circus paintings that were exhibited at the V&amp;A’s Circus! Circus!
