After more work on developing a laminate to provide a scratch-proof finish, establishing Polyboard in the summer of 1968, a range of children's toys were made from it. These 2 sheets are rare survivals from a series of wrapping papers for children in poster format designed by David Fairbrother-Roe (working under the name ‘Dave Roe’). All the papers in the series represented either jukeboxes or pinball machines. \n\r\nFairbrother-Roe (d.2013), a graduate of the Royal College of Art, is best known today as the graphic designer for the Isle of Wight Music Festivals, for which he designed tickets, programmes and posters, 1968-70. \r\n","physicalDescription":"Sheet of shiny paper printed with an image of a pinball machine in pink, purple, green etc.","artistMakerPerson":[{"name":{"text":"Fairbrother-Roe, David","id":"A22934"},"association":{"text":"designer","id":"x36960"},"note":""}],"artistMakerOrganisations":[{"name":{"text":"Polypops Products Ltd.","id":"A20767"},"association":{"text":"manufacturer","id":"x33306"},"note":""}],"artistMakerPeople":[],"materials":[{"text":"ink","id":"AAT15012"},{"text":"paper","id":"x30308"}],"techniques":[{"text":"Offset litho","id":"x38646"}],"materialsAndTechniques":"Offset litho","categories":[{"text":"Ephemera","id":"THES252985"},{"text":"Posters","id":"THES252963"}],"styles":[],"collectionCode":{"text":"PDP","id":"THES48595"},"images":["2017JW8747"],"imageResolution":"high","galleryLocations":[{"current":{"text":"LVLC","id":"THES49171"},"free":"","case":"GG","shelf":"151","box":"B"}],"partTypes":[[{"text":"print","id":"AAT41273"}]],"contentWarnings":[{"apprise":"","note":""}],"placesOfOrigin":[{"place":{"text":"London","id":"x28980"},"association":{"text":"produced","id":"x30771"},"note":""}],"productionDates":[{"date":{"text":"c.1968","earliest":"1963-01-01","latest":"1972-12-31"},"association":{"text":"produced","id":"x30771"},"note":""}],"associatedObjects":[],"creditLine":"","dimensions":[{"dimension":"Height","value":"73.4","unit":"cm","qualifier":"","date":{"text":"","earliest":null,"latest":null},"part":"","note":""},{"dimension":"Width","value":"49.4","unit":"cm","qualifier":"","date":{"text":"","earliest":null,"latest":null},"part":"","note":""}],"dimensionsNote":"","marksAndInscriptions":[],"objectHistory":"","historicalContext":"","briefDescription":"Sheet of Pinball wrapping paper, designed by Dave Roe (David Fairbrother-Roe) and produced by Polypops Products Ltd., London, c.1968","bibliographicReferences":[],"production":"","productionType":{"text":"","id":""},"contentDescription":"","contentPlaces":[],"associatedPlaces":[],"contentPerson":[],"associatedPerson":[],"contentOrganisations":[],"associatedOrganisations":[],"contentPeople":[],"associatedPeople":[],"contentEvents":[],"associatedEvents":[],"contentOthers":[{"text":"pinball machine","id":"AAT211183"},{"text":"game","id":"AAT69657"}],"contentConcepts":[],"contentLiteraryRefs":[],"galleryLabels":[],"partNumbers":["E.227-2017"],"accessionNumberNum":"227","accessionNumberPrefix":"E","accessionYear":2017,"otherNumbers":[],"copyNumber":"","aspects":["WHOLE"],"assets":[],"recordModificationDate":"2025-04-09","recordCreationDate":"2017-01-30","availableToBook":false}}
