Toulouse-Lautrec's poster, however, bears very little relevance to the business it advertises, choosing instead to entertain viewers by presenting them with a titillating image. \r\n\r\nIn a parody of the stock vignette 'the doctor's visit', an artisan arrives at a client's house and is shown by the maid to her mistress's bedroom, seemingly to perform an 'examination', equipped with his toolbox rather than a doctor's medicine bag. The client, who is prostrate in bed dressed in a transparent negligée, passively awaits his attentions. The maid's expression of distress, the little dog's raised tail and the ruddiness of the artisan's complexion all serve to indicate the licentious nature of the visit.","physicalDescription":"Colour lithograph poster printed in four colours depicting a woman sitting up in bed with a little dog in her lap. Her maid is in attendance and appears to have just announced the arrival of a man in white coat carrying a toolbox and hammer. Lettered with printer's name on the left hand side, titles at the bottom of the sheet followed by lists of ten addresses of design and homewares shops trading under the name 'L'Artisan Moderne'. Signed with the artist's monogram of the elephant design.","artistMakerPerson":[{"name":{"text":"Henri de Toulouse-Lautrec","id":"A6626"},"association":{"text":"artist","id":"AAT25103"},"note":""}],"artistMakerOrganisations":[],"artistMakerPeople":[],"materials":[{"text":"Lithographic ink","id":"AAT187750"},{"text":"paper","id":"AAT14109"}],"techniques":[{"text":"lithograph","id":"x39981"},{"text":"splatter","id":"AAT254788"}],"materialsAndTechniques":"Colour lithograph","categories":[{"text":"Prints","id":"THES48903"},{"text":"Posters","id":"THES252963"}],"styles":[{"text":"Post-impressionist","id":"AAT21508"}],"collectionCode":{"text":"PDP","id":"THES48595"},"images":["2006AN7628","2006BB2019"],"imageResolution":"high","galleryLocations":[{"current":{"text":"LVLC","id":"THES49171"},"free":"","case":"MB2E","shelf":"DR108","box":""}],"partTypes":[[{"text":"posters","id":"AAT27221"}]],"contentWarnings":[{"apprise":"","note":""}],"placesOfOrigin":[{"place":{"text":"Paris","id":"x29068"},"association":{"text":"designed and printed","id":"x37573"},"note":""}],"productionDates":[{"date":{"text":"1896","earliest":"1896-01-01","latest":"1896-12-31"},"association":{"text":"designed and printed","id":"x37573"},"note":""}],"associatedObjects":[{"object":{"text":"CIRC.205-1950","id":"O143602"},"association":"Duplicate"}],"creditLine":"Given by the Misses G L T and L J D Griffith","dimensions":[{"dimension":"Height","value":"1219","unit":"mm","qualifier":"","date":{"text":"","earliest":null,"latest":null},"part":"","note":""},{"dimension":"Width","value":"863","unit":"mm","qualifier":"","date":{"text":"2016","earliest":"2016-01-01","latest":"2016-12-31"},"part":"","note":""}],"dimensionsNote":"","marksAndInscriptions":[{"content":"HTL","inscriber":{"name":{"text":"","id":""},"association":{"text":"","id":""}},"date":{"text":"","earliest":null,"latest":null},"description":"","interpretation":"","language":"","medium":"","method":"","position":"","script":"","translation":"","transliteration":"","type":"","note":"Signed with monogram"},{"content":"'IMP.
