He became a member of the Royal Photographic Society (RPS) in 1920 and was admitted as a Fellow in 1921. He was very active within the RPS lecture circuit and also wrote many articles for The Photographic Journal.\n\nBanfield spent his life living and working in North London. In the early 1930s, he took a number of images of the lions, tigers and big cats at London Zoo. The lady pictured interacting with the animals is Kay Banfield, the photographer's wife, who was known for her ability as a 'lion whisperer'.
