He first studied art in Milan, then architecture in Venice at the Università LUAV under the celebrated Venetian architect Carlo Scarpa. Upon graduation in 1969 he took a position, still in Venice, with Le Corbusier on a hospital project that was unbuilt followed by a short period assisting Louis Kahn while he was in Venice. In 1970, he started his own practice. \r\n\r\nThe drawing of the Chapel of St Mary of the Angels, Monte Tamaro (built 1990-96), shows this mountain-top structure in aerial perspective sliding diagonally across the sheet, the elongated form rising from the cylindrical chapel and viewing platform which overlooks the valley below, bottom left, to telecommunications mast on the mountain’s summit. A detail perspective, upper left, shows a view from the reverse of the larger perspective, of the arched stairs to the upper observation deck. A ground floor plan stretches the length of the bottom of the sheet, with the round form of the chapel with its pair of heavy columns near the entrance. A section of the building lies partially buried beneath the perspectives, acting like a supporting arch and part of the mountain.","physicalDescription":"Architectural drawing showing plan, section, bird’s-eye perspective and perspective of entrance of the chapel, drawn by the architect after the building was completed (ie. record, not design).
