The grip and rear part of the gun are made in two pieces from transparent purple plastic. Inside can be seen the workings, all made from bright, colourful plastic. A geared mechanism inside the gun causes it to emit a clicking sound when the orange trigger is pulled. On the proper left side within a roundel is the moulded detail of a songbird in flight. The barrel of the gun is a slightly tapering cylinder made from red plastic.\n\nThe gun fits neatly into a card insert which has been cut to the gun's exact shape. The insert fits inside the five-sided card box, which is shaped to the gun's proportions. The lid of the box has a cellophane window of the outline of the gun. The rest of the lid is colour-printed in deep blue, red, yellow and white, showing images of space and spacecraft.\n","artistMakerPerson":[],"artistMakerOrganisations":[{"name":{"text":"Eagleton","id":"AUTH342811"},"association":{"text":"manufacturers","id":"AAT25230"},"note":""}],"artistMakerPeople":[],"materials":[{"text":"plastic","id":"AAT14570"},{"text":"paper","id":"AAT14109"}],"techniques":[{"text":"moulding","id":"x46876"},{"text":"printing","id":"AAT53319"}],"materialsAndTechniques":"Plastic; steel; printed card","categories":[{"text":"Toys & Games","id":"THES262248"},{"text":"Plastic","id":"THES49026"}],"styles":[],"collectionCode":{"text":"YVA","id":"THES48593"},"images":["2017JU8816","2017JU8815"],"imageResolution":"low","galleryLocations":[{"current":{"text":"006","id":"THES343679"},"free":"","case":"","shelf":"","box":""},{"current":{"text":"006","id":"THES343679"},"free":"","case":"","shelf":"","box":""},{"current":{"text":"006","id":"THES343679"},"free":"","case":"","shelf":"","box":""},{"current":{"text":"006","id":"THES343679"},"free":"","case":"","shelf":"","box":""}],"partTypes":[[{"text":"pistol","id":"AAT37160"}],[{"text":"box","id":"AAT45643"}],[{"text":"box","id":"x44081"}],[{"text":"packaging","id":"AAT55100"}]],"contentWarnings":[{"apprise":"","note":""}],"placesOfOrigin":[{"place":{"text":"South Korea","id":"x30519"},"association":{"text":"manufactured","id":"x29350"},"note":""}],"productionDates":[{"date":{"text":"1978-1982","earliest":"1978-01-01","latest":"1982-12-31"},"association":{"text":"manufactured","id":"x29350"},"note":"probably"}],"associatedObjects":[],"creditLine":"","dimensions":[{"dimension":"Length","value":"22","unit":"cm","qualifier":"","date":{"text":"","earliest":null,"latest":null},"part":"gun","note":""}],"dimensionsNote":"","marksAndInscriptions":[{"content":"'LASER SOUND'","inscriber":{"name":{"text":"","id":""},"association":{"text":"","id":""}},"date":{"text":"","earliest":null,"latest":null},"description":"","interpretation":"","language":"","medium":"","method":"","position":"","script":"","translation":"","transliteration":"","type":"","note":"Printed on front of box lid"},{"content":"'ASTEROID ACTION MECHANISM'","inscriber":{"name":{"text":"","id":""},"association":{"text":"","id":""}},"date":{"text":"","earliest":null,"latest":null},"description":"","interpretation":"","language":"","medium":"","method":"","position":"","script":"","translation":"","transliteration":"","type":"","note":"Printed on front of box."},{"content":"'A FIM Product / Item No. KBS 87 / Made in Korea'","inscriber":{"name":{"text":"","id":""},"association":{"text":"","id":""}},"date":{"text":"","earliest":null,"latest":null},"description":"","interpretation":"","language":"","medium":"","method":"","position":"","script":"","translation":"","transliteration":"","type":"","note":"Printed on narrowest end of box."},{"content":"'MADE IN KOREA'","inscriber":{"name":{"text":"","id":""},"association":{"text":"","id":""}},"date":{"text":"","earliest":null,"latest":null},"description":"","interpretation":"","language":"","medium":"","method":"","position":"","script":"","translation":"","transliteration":"","type":"","note":"Moulded on PL side of gun."}],"objectHistory":"Part of the Edward Castle collection.\r\n","historicalContext":"","briefDescription":"Toy gun, 'Space Invader Star Gun'; Plastic, Korean, 1978-1982\n","bibliographicReferences":[],"production":"This toy is a copy of an earlier space gun produced by Japanese manufacturer Yoshiya.
