Although the D'Oyly Carte Company (in the midst of a tour of Scotland) was currently rehearsing <i>The Gondoliers</i>, Queen Victoria had already seen the opera at Windsor Castle a few months earlier.\n\nThe company faced several logistical difficulties in performing at Balmoral, travelling from Aberdeen to Ballater and rehearsing on the small ballroom stage before the performance at 9:30pm. The D'Oyly Carte Opera Company, transferred from Her Majesty's Theatre, Aberdeen, was managed Mr. E. H. Beresford, stage managed by Mr. J. C. Scanlan and conducted by P. W. Halton. The cast was led by Mr. Thomas Redmond as the Mikado and Mr. Richard Clarke as Nanki-Poo.\n\nThe programme was given to the British Theatre Museum Association by Mr E.H.
