Their character toys were described in advertisements as a ‘best-selling range’. Meanwhile Fulham Pottery issued a set of miniature figurines following the unexpected success of its larger stoneware garden set. Shepard sometimes designed merchandise too. His earliest coloured illustrations of Winnie-the-Pooh were six nursery prints given away in the women’s magazine Home Chat in 1928, advertising The House at Pooh Corner.
