In a process pioneered by the artist himself, an ink-soaked brush would be held over the lithographic stone and rubbed against a grid, to produce a fine spray of droplets. The resulting effect could be one of great delicacy, used to add nuanced tones and subtle shading or, when applied with gusto, could create bolder and more dramatic results. For this technique Toulouse-Lautrec had taken inspiration from a decorative effect employed in Japanese lacquer: <i>urushi</i> or 'sprinkled' lacquer.","physicalDescription":"A woman with long, blonde hair and elbow-length, black gloves clutches her hat as three disembodied hands emerge from the top left corner and shower her with confetti. The poster was commissioned by J & E. Bella, manufacturers of newly invented colour paper confetti. The actress Jeanne Granier posed as the model.","artistMakerPerson":[{"name":{"text":"Henri de Toulouse-Lautrec","id":"A6626"},"association":{"text":"artist","id":"AAT25103"},"note":""}],"artistMakerOrganisations":[],"artistMakerPeople":[],"materials":[],"techniques":[{"text":"colour lithograph","id":"x35545"},{"text":"planographic printing","id":"AAT53255"}],"materialsAndTechniques":"Colour lithograph","categories":[{"text":"Prints","id":"THES48903"},{"text":"Posters","id":"THES252963"}],"styles":[{"text":"Post-impressionist","id":"AAT21508"}],"collectionCode":{"text":"PDP","id":"THES48595"},"images":["2006BB2142"],"imageResolution":"high","galleryLocations":[{"current":{"text":"LVLC","id":"THES49171"},"free":"","case":"Y","shelf":"81","box":"D"}],"partTypes":[[{"text":"poster","id":""}]],"contentWarnings":[{"apprise":"No","note":""}],"placesOfOrigin":[{"place":{"text":"Paris","id":"x29068"},"association":{"text":"made","id":"x28654"},"note":""}],"productionDates":[{"date":{"text":"1894","earliest":"1894-01-01","latest":"1894-12-31"},"association":{"text":"made","id":"x28654"},"note":""}],"associatedObjects":[{"object":{"text":"CIRC.681-1971","id":"O124154"},"association":"Duplicate"}],"creditLine":"Given by Mrs J.T.
