The novel is a satirical exploration of German bourgeois society. Toulouse-Lautrec's poster highlights the emphasis the federal state placed on its military might during German Imperial rule. A dashing soldier on parade has caught the eye of a passing female spectator, to the irritation of her companion. The artist created a poster for another of Joze's works: 'La Reine de Joie', as part of a series of novels published by Joze entitled, 'La ménagerie sociale'.","physicalDescription":"The scene shows a young soldier on parade.
