She did hundreds of sketches of the hat to get it right, and its curved upswept brim was designed for maximum visibility of Elphaba's face.\n\nWicked has broken box office records in cities around the world since its opening at Broadway's Gershwin Theatre in 2006. The musical tells the story of the witches of Oz, and focuses on the relationship between the two witches Elphaba and Glinda. Susan Hilferty has designed costumes for more than 300 productions all around the world, and in 2004 was awarded the Tony Award for best costume design and the Drama Desk Award for Outstanding Costume Design for her designs for Wicked.\n","physicalDescription":"Giclée print on taupe paper with white border of the original pencil, watercolour and gouache costume design for Elphaba's costume as a witch, showing her standing, full-length, wearing her hat and holding her broomstick in her right hand, originally executed on grey art paper with integral white borders.
