She wrote the majority of the twenty-three Original Peter Rabbit Books between 1901 and 1913. The Tale of Peter Rabbit (Frederick Warne, 1902) is her most famous and best-loved tale. \r\n\r\nBeatrix Potter made many imaginary drawings in the 1890s, before she published her books. This study of mice dancing may well date from this time. It has been suggested that these studies illustrate the rhyme of Three Blind Mice, which Potter included, alongside an illustration with a different composition, in Cecily Parsley’s Nursery Rhymes (1922). When working on this book Potter looked back at some of her earlier unpublished drawings and manuscripts. \r\n\r\nMice were an important feature of Potter’s published work, most famously in her books The Tailor of Gloucester (1903) and The Tale of the Two Bad Mice (1904). \r\n","physicalDescription":"Four studies of mice dancing, three alongside eachother all in the same pose and a fourth, in a different pose, below.","artistMakerPerson":[{"name":{"text":"Beatrix Potter","id":"A18000"},"association":{"text":"artist","id":"AAT25103"},"note":""}],"artistMakerOrganisations":[],"artistMakerPeople":[],"materials":[{"text":"pencil","id":"x30347"},{"text":"paper","id":"x30308"},{"text":"paper (fiber product)","id":"AAT14109"}],"techniques":[{"text":"drawn","id":"x30545"}],"materialsAndTechniques":"pencil on paper","categories":[{"text":"Drawings","id":"THES48966"},{"text":"Anthropomorphism","id":"THES252998"},{"text":"Illustration","id":"THES48938"},{"text":"Animals and Wildlife","id":"THES250852"},{"text":"Woman Artist","id":"THES387590"}],"styles":[{"text":"British","id":"AAT111159"}],"collectionCode":{"text":"PDP","id":"THES48595"},"images":["2018LH0127","2016JH8284"],"imageResolution":"low","galleryLocations":[{"current":{"text":"004","id":"THES317966"},"free":"","case":"","shelf":"","box":""}],"partTypes":[[{"text":"drawing","id":"x32498"}]],"contentWarnings":[{"apprise":"","note":""}],"placesOfOrigin":[],"productionDates":[{"date":{"text":"ca.1890s","earliest":"1885-01-01","latest":"1903-12-31"},"association":{"text":"drawn","id":"x30545"},"note":""}],"associatedObjects":[],"creditLine":"Linder Bequest [plus object number; written on labels on the same line as the object number]","dimensions":[{"dimension":"Height","value":"100","unit":"mm","qualifier":"","date":{"text":"","earliest":null,"latest":null},"part":"sheet","note":""},{"dimension":"Width","value":"165","unit":"mm","qualifier":"","date":{"text":"","earliest":null,"latest":null},"part":"sheet","note":""}],"dimensionsNote":"","marksAndInscriptions":[],"objectHistory":"Drawn by Beatrix Potter, perhaps in the 1890s.
