The landscape image shows a simple painted backdrop of a large archway with rectangular windows on either side. Through the archway is a smaller dark building with a palm tree in front of it.\r\n\r\nThe scene takes place in front of the archway and the image shows a large group scene focusing on an interaction between Ptolemy and Cleopatra. Ptolemy, played by Gerald Anderson, is in the centre of stage on a raised throne. He is wearing a tall black and white, single pointed crown with plated armour and a triangular piece of armour with a striped black and white pattern that hangs from his waist to his knees. He is standing in profile with his left leg bent and his foot on a cushion. His right foot is on the step below, and he is leaning down towards Cleopatra, played by Gwen Ffrangcon-Davies who has his left hand. Cleopatra is standing facing the camera, wearing a layered silver dress, looking up towards Ptolemy and pulling his left hand.\r\n\r\nTo the right of Cleopatra is Caesar, played by Cedric Hardwicke, who is wearing a long dark cloak and shirt with dark shoes and a simple thin grown. He is sitting, facing towards the camera and looking to Ptolemy on the left. Behind him are his two servants Rufio, played by Frank Moore and Britannus, played by Scott Sunderland. Ptolemy also has servants and other characters behind his throne. He has servants holding palm fans at either side of his throne, as well as eight richly dressed characters in long cloaks behind him.","artistMakerPerson":[{"name":{"text":"Unknown","id":"A1848"},"association":{"text":"photographers","id":"AAT25687"},"note":""}],"artistMakerOrganisations":[{"name":{"text":"","id":""},"association":{"text":"","id":""},"note":""}],"artistMakerPeople":[],"materials":[{"text":"photographic paper","id":"AAT14190"},{"text":"card","id":"x30344"}],"techniques":[{"text":"photography","id":"AAT54225"}],"materialsAndTechniques":"Photographic print mounted on card","categories":[{"text":"Entertainment & Leisure","id":"THES48959"},{"text":"Photographs","id":"THES48910"}],"styles":[],"collectionCode":{"text":"T&P","id":"THES48602"},"images":["2016JJ0941"],"imageResolution":"high","galleryLocations":[{"current":{"text":"008","id":"THES356622"},"free":"","case":"","shelf":"","box":""}],"partTypes":[[{"text":"photographs","id":"AAT46300"}]],"contentWarnings":[{"apprise":"","note":""}],"placesOfOrigin":[{"place":{"text":"London","id":"x28980"},"association":{"text":"photographed","id":"x30151"},"note":""}],"productionDates":[{"date":{"text":"1925","earliest":"1925-01-01","latest":"1925-12-31"},"association":{"text":"photographed","id":"x30151"},"note":""}],"associatedObjects":[],"creditLine":"Gabrielle Enthoven Collection ","dimensions":[{"dimension":"Height","value":"21.2","unit":"cm","qualifier":"","date":{"text":"","earliest":null,"latest":null},"part":"","note":""},{"dimension":"Width","value":"31.0","unit":"cm","qualifier":"","date":{"text":"","earliest":null,"latest":null},"part":"","note":""}],"dimensionsNote":"","marksAndInscriptions":[{"content":"","inscriber":{"name":{"text":"","id":""},"association":{"text":"","id":""}},"date":{"text":"","earliest":null,"latest":null},"description":"","interpretation":"","language":"","medium":"","method":"","position":"","script":"","translation":"","transliteration":"","type":"","note":""}],"objectHistory":"Given to the Gabrielle Enthoven Collection by Sir Barry Jackson in 1934.","historicalContext":"","briefDescription":"Photographic print of a scene from a production of <i>Caesar and Cleopatra</i>, at the Kingsway Theatre, April 21<sup>st</sup> 1925","bibliographicReferences":[],"production":"","productionType":{"text":"","id":""},"contentDescription":"","contentPlaces":[],"associatedPlaces":[],"contentPerson":[],"associatedPerson":[],"contentOrganisations":[],"associatedOrganisations":[],"contentPeople":[],"associatedPeople":[],"contentEvents":[],"associatedEvents":[],"contentOthers":[],"contentConcepts":[],"contentLiteraryRefs":["Caesar and Cleopatra"],"galleryLabels":[],"partNumbers":["S.497-2016"],"accessionNumberNum":"497","accessionNumberPrefix":"S","accessionYear":2016,"otherNumbers":[],"copyNumber":"","aspects":["WHOLE"],"assets":[],"recordModificationDate":"2025-04-16","recordCreationDate":"2016-08-23","availableToBook":true}}
