The landscape photograph shows a simple stage design with a painted backdrop of six high windows in an egyptian style design, on stage are two steps leading down to Cleopatra who is laying on a fouton shaped like a lion. The fouton includes a lion's head at one end, pointing left, and the tail at the other pointing right. Cleopatra, played by Gwen Ffrangcon Davies is reclining at the right end of the fouton with her left arm resting on the tail of the lion. She is applying make-up to her eyebrows with her right hand, looking towards a servant holding a mirror to the left. There are five female servants surrounding the fouton, they are wearing dark dresses with a netted overdress, lightly coloured sandals and lightly coloured ribbon headbands. Two are kneeling at either side of the steps next to the fouton, two are standing behind the fouton and one is standing to the right. Behind them are two male servants, wearing darkly coloured body make up, black curled wigs, dark skirts and holding tall fans with semicircular heads.\r\n\r\nOn the left side of the stage are a group of eight female characters dressed in long patterned dresses and golden headdresses.
