The artists included David Carson, Sir Michael Craig-Martin, Graphic Thought Facility, Paula Scher and Jamie Reid.\r\n\r\nJamie Reid’s design focuses on one play, <i>The Romans In Britain</i>, which was staged at the theatre in 1980 and proved controversial for its depiction of homosexual rape. The play was the subject of an unsuccessful court case brought by campaigner Mary Whitehouse in 1982. Reid had a long association with Punk Rock and designed the bold and provocative graphics for the punk group, The Sex Pistols in 1977.\r\n","physicalDescription":"Poster featuring a blue male figure, surrounded by abstract shapes and the text of the play's title <i>The Romans in Britain</i> in the artist's distinctive style.","artistMakerPerson":[],"artistMakerOrganisations":[{"name":{"text":"National Theatre","id":"C3594"},"association":{"text":"Printed for","id":"x44047"},"note":""}],"artistMakerPeople":[],"materials":[{"text":"Printing ink","id":"AAT187371"}],"techniques":[{"text":"printing","id":"AAT53319"}],"materialsAndTechniques":"Silkscreen printing","categories":[{"text":"Posters","id":"THES252963"},{"text":"Advertising","id":"THES49001"},{"text":"Commemoration","id":"THES250532"},{"text":"Theatre","id":"THES250537"},{"text":"Entertainment & Leisure","id":"THES48959"}],"styles":[],"collectionCode":{"text":"T&P","id":"THES48602"},"images":["2016JN1727"],"imageResolution":"low","galleryLocations":[{"current":{"text":"010","id":"THES345270"},"free":"","case":"","shelf":"","box":""}],"partTypes":[[{"text":"posters","id":"AAT27221"}]],"contentWarnings":[{"apprise":"","note":""}],"placesOfOrigin":[{"place":{"text":"Great Britain","id":"x32019"},"association":{"text":"made","id":"x28654"},"note":""}],"productionDates":[{"date":{"text":"2013","earliest":"2013-01-01","latest":"2013-12-31"},"association":{"text":"made","id":"x28654"},"note":""}],"associatedObjects":[],"creditLine":"Given by the National Theatre","dimensions":[{"dimension":"Height","value":"88","unit":"cm","qualifier":"","date":{"text":"","earliest":null,"latest":null},"part":"","note":""},{"dimension":"Width","value":"62","unit":"cm","qualifier":"","date":{"text":"","earliest":null,"latest":null},"part":"","note":""}],"dimensionsNote":"","marksAndInscriptions":[],"objectHistory":"","historicalContext":"","briefDescription":"Poster to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the National Theatre, designed by Jamie Reid","bibliographicReferences":[],"production":"","productionType":{"text":"","id":""},"contentDescription":"","contentPlaces":[],"associatedPlaces":[],"contentPerson":[],"associatedPerson":[],"contentOrganisations":[],"associatedOrganisations":[],"contentPeople":[],"associatedPeople":[],"contentEvents":[],"associatedEvents":[],"contentOthers":[],"contentConcepts":[],"contentLiteraryRefs":[],"galleryLabels":[],"partNumbers":["S.621-2016"],"accessionNumberNum":"621","accessionNumberPrefix":"S","accessionYear":2016,"otherNumbers":[],"copyNumber":"","aspects":["WHOLE"],"assets":[],"recordModificationDate":"2026-05-13","recordCreationDate":"2016-08-18","availableToBook":true}}
