The landscape photograph shows a dialogue between Cleopatra and Caesar. There are a total of sixteen characters on stage in the image. The set design includes a painted backdrop showing white steps and blank background. There us a large cutout of an Egyptian statue on the right side of the image and also who chairs on each side of the stage, in front of the steps.\r\n\r\nOn the each side of the image are male servants in dark skirts with large beaded necklaces and long paper fans. They are standing in profile facing each other. There are also a group of seven female characters on the right side of stage, standing on the raised steps. They are all wearing long diamond patterned dresses with gold headresses. The group includes Florence Mariott Watson as Ftatateeta who is standing facing towards Cleopatra in the centre of stage. There are a further two similarly dressed characters on the steps at the left side of stage. In The centre of the image is Gwen Ffrangcon-Davies as Cleopatra, wearing a long lightly coloured dress with a beaded necklace hanging down to her knees. She is wearing a large golden crown with a symettrical swirling design. She is standing facing towards the centre-right of stage with both arms raised at a right angle. She is holding the hem of her dress with her left hand and is looking towards Caesar on the lower part of stage. Caesar is played by Cedric Hardwicke, who is wearing a long cloak with a golden hem and a leaf shaped pattern and a golden crown.
