At the left of the image is a raised platform next to the signs signalling the race numbers and finishing places of the riders. In front of the platform is seating with numerous female characters dressed in long lightly coloured dresses and hats. Many are standing on the seats in an attempt to look over the crowd at a procession of carriages and horseguards. It appears to be a member of royalty standing on the carriage looking over towards the crowd at the right. At the front of stage, to the right is another group of female characters dressed in long lightly coloured dresses and large feathered hats waving towards the procession.
