Behind them, at the centre of stage is a large group of male characters spectating the racing. All are wearing dark suits, with a range of bowler hats, boater hats, flatcaps and top hats. At the centre of the scene is a jockey, who is collapsed on the floor looking up towards James Hogg to the right. The Jockey is wearing a black leather jacket with tall dark boots and lightly coloured trousers. James Hogg, standing in profile next to him is wearing a lightly coloured suit with a lightly coloured bowler hat. He is pointing to the left towards Lady Marion Beaumont. Lady Marion is wearing a long, lightly coloured dress with a large dark feathered hat.
