Made of green cotton voile and featuring a voluminous, tiered skirt, it is a key example of the sculptural, biomorphic silhouettes that Sybilla became known and celebrated for in the late 1980s. She has been widely acclaimed as one of the most exciting designers to have emerged from Spain since the renowned couturier, Cristóbal Balenciaga. Sybilla trained in Paris at the couture atelier of Yves Saint Laurent before setting up her eponymous label ‘Sybilla’ in 1985. She is a member of the post-Franco generation that was part of a creative explosion in Spain in the 1980s. She recalls, ‘We were the first generation after Franco died, and we tried to be different and creative’.  Shape is fundamental to her designs. ‘My shapes are round, based on the circle,’ she says. ‘They can morph to protect or expose. Women are warriors, and I want to give them an armour that can be light and strong at the same time!’ \r\nIn the 1990s Sybilla went on to become particularly successful in the Japanese ready-to-wear market.
