Large quantities of domestic and, probably, amateur work survive. Little information is available about the relative roles of professional and amateur embroiderers. Well-to-do women were frequently skilled embroiderers and could produce work of a high standard.","physicalDescription":"Linen embroidered with silver and green silk and spangles in couched work and French knots in a pattern of intertwining ferns","artistMakerPerson":[{"name":{"text":"Unknown","id":"A1848"},"association":{"text":"","id":""},"note":""}],"artistMakerOrganisations":[],"artistMakerPeople":[],"materials":[{"text":"linen (material)","id":"AAT14069"},{"text":"silk yarn","id":"THES285929"},{"text":"spangles","id":"x38420"}],"techniques":[{"text":"embroidery","id":"x40351"}],"materialsAndTechniques":"Linen, embroidered with silver thread, silk and spangles","categories":[{"text":"Embroidery","id":"THES48960"},{"text":"Textiles","id":"THES48885"}],"styles":[],"collectionCode":{"text":"T&F","id":"THES48601"},"images":["2006AC7193","2006AT4360","2011FB0688","2017KB3668"],"imageResolution":"high","galleryLocations":[{"current":{"text":"A","id":"THES304269"},"free":"","case":"","shelf":"","box":""}],"partTypes":[[{"text":"Cushion cover","id":""}]],"contentWarnings":[{"apprise":"","note":""}],"placesOfOrigin":[{"place":{"text":"England","id":"x28826"},"association":{"text":"made","id":"x28654"},"note":""}],"productionDates":[{"date":{"text":"1590-1620","earliest":"1590-01-01","latest":"1620-12-31"},"association":{"text":"made","id":"x28654"},"note":""}],"associatedObjects":[],"creditLine":"Given by Sir Kenelm Henry Ernest Cayley","dimensions":[{"dimension":"Length","value":"89.5","unit":"cm","qualifier":"","date":{"text":"","earliest":null,"latest":null},"part":"","note":"measurement converted from department register"},{"dimension":"Width","value":"54.6","unit":"cm","qualifier":"","date":{"text":"","earliest":null,"latest":null},"part":"","note":"measurement converted from department register"}],"dimensionsNote":"","marksAndInscriptions":[{"content":"","inscriber":{"name":{"text":"","id":""},"association":{"text":"","id":""}},"date":{"text":"","earliest":null,"latest":null},"description":"","interpretation":"","language":"","medium":"","method":"","position":"","script":"","translation":"","transliteration":" ","type":"","note":""},{"content":" ","inscriber":{"name":{"text":"","id":""},"association":{"text":"","id":""}},"date":{"text":"","earliest":null,"latest":null},"description":"","interpretation":"","language":"","medium":"","method":"","position":"","script":"","translation":"","transliteration":"","type":"","note":""}],"objectHistory":"","historicalContext":"","briefDescription":"Embroidered pillow cover, 1590-1620, English, silk on linen","bibliographicReferences":[],"production":"","productionType":{"text":"","id":""},"contentDescription":"","contentPlaces":[],"associatedPlaces":[],"contentPerson":[],"associatedPerson":[],"contentOrganisations":[],"associatedOrganisations":[],"contentPeople":[],"associatedPeople":[],"contentEvents":[],"associatedEvents":[],"contentOthers":[{"text":"scrolling foliage","id":"AAT165387"}],"contentConcepts":[],"contentLiteraryRefs":[],"galleryLabels":[],"partNumbers":["T.280-1927"],"accessionNumberNum":"280","accessionNumberPrefix":"T","accessionYear":1927,"otherNumbers":[],"copyNumber":"","aspects":["WHOLE"],"assets":[],"recordModificationDate":"2025-04-05","recordCreationDate":"1999-12-15","availableToBook":true}}
