Their shop sold some of the most innovative designs to be found in London boutiques.\r\n\r\nThis kaftan-style dress comes from Zandra Rhodes' first independent collection, called 'Knitted Circle'. The collection consisted of garments made with her distinctive, hand- printed silks designed with motifs taken from knitting and embroidery stitches. Zandra Rhodes later wrote 'I made swirling, dramatic shapes with no concessions to the saleable, the acceptable or the ordinary. The true Rhodes style came into being'.\r\n\r\nThis dress was worn by Irene Worth in the Royal Shakespeare Company's production of Edward Albee's play <i>Tiny Alice</i> staged at the Aldwych Theatre, London, in 1970.","physicalDescription":"Printed silk chiffon dress, constructed with a high-waisted bodice, long full sleeves, and long skirt.","artistMakerPerson":[{"name":{"text":"Zandra Rhodes","id":"A2356"},"association":{"text":"designer","id":"AAT25190"},"note":""}],"artistMakerOrganisations":[],"artistMakerPeople":[],"materials":[{"text":"chiffon","id":"AAT249449"}],"techniques":[{"text":"printing","id":"AAT53319"}],"materialsAndTechniques":"Printed silk chiffon","categories":[{"text":"Textiles","id":"THES48885"},{"text":"Fashion","id":"THES48957"},{"text":"Evening wear","id":"THES48999"},{"text":"Clothing","id":"THES48975"}],"styles":[],"collectionCode":{"text":"T&F","id":"THES48601"},"images":["2007BN1045","2007BN1044","2007BN1043","2007BN1042","2012FV4868"],"imageResolution":"low","galleryLocations":[{"current":{"text":"007","id":"THES307944"},"free":"","case":"","shelf":"","box":""}],"partTypes":[[{"text":"Evening dress","id":""}]],"contentWarnings":[{"apprise":"","note":""}],"placesOfOrigin":[{"place":{"text":"Great Britain","id":"x32019"},"association":{"text":"made","id":"x28654"},"note":""}],"productionDates":[{"date":{"text":"1969","earliest":"1969-01-01","latest":"1969-12-31"},"association":{"text":"designed and made","id":"x39722"},"note":""}],"associatedObjects":[],"creditLine":"Given by Miss Irene Worth","dimensions":[{"dimension":"Length","value":"1425","unit":"mm","qualifier":"","date":{"text":"","earliest":null,"latest":null},"part":"","note":"maximum length from shoulder to hem"},{"dimension":"Circumference","value":"338","unit":"cm","qualifier":"","date":{"text":"","earliest":null,"latest":null},"part":"","note":"maximum circumference at bottom hem"},{"dimension":"Circumference","value":"680","unit":"mm","qualifier":"","date":{"text":"","earliest":null,"latest":null},"part":"","note":"bust"},{"dimension":"Circumference","value":"800","unit":"mm","qualifier":"","date":{"text":"","earliest":null,"latest":null},"part":"","note":"waist"}],"dimensionsNote":"","marksAndInscriptions":[],"objectHistory":"This particular dress is Butterfly No 11, cat no Z6 as depicted in Rhodes' 1984 autobiography (1984).
