His wide output ranged from poster design, book illustration and scene design, to textile, glass, porcelain, ceramics and interior design. His line drawings of women are whimsical and simplified, as in this image of an impossibly suspended trapeze artist. \r\n\r\nWiinblad's work is characterised by a fairytale mood and sense of fun, and ceramic pieces featuring his designs are in collections including the Museum of Modern Art in New York, the National Museum in Stockholm, and the Museum of Copenhagen. For over 30 years Wiinblad was one of the leading designers of Rosenthal porcelain.","physicalDescription":"Circular white plate with a cartoon-like line drawing of a smiling female trapeze artist holding a flower in her right hand, her left arm curved upwards, whilst suspended from a trapeze by her foot at an impossible angle, the image painted in underglaze blue. Signed on the base, and with maker's mark.","artistMakerPerson":[{"name":{"text":"Wiinblad, Bjorn","id":"A1020"},"association":{"text":"designer","id":"x36960"},"note":""}],"artistMakerOrganisations":[{"name":{"text":"Nymolle","id":"A19313"},"association":{"text":"makers","id":"AAT251917"},"note":""}],"artistMakerPeople":[],"materials":[{"text":"earthenware","id":"x29356"},{"text":"glaze","id":"AAT15091"}],"techniques":[{"text":"moulding","id":"x46876"},{"text":"firing (heating)","id":"AAT53887"},{"text":"painting","id":"x30598"},{"text":"glazing (coating)","id":"AAT53914"}],"materialsAndTechniques":"Glazed earthenware","categories":[{"text":"Entertainment & Leisure","id":"THES48959"},{"text":"Ceramics","id":"THES48982"},{"text":"Circus","id":"THES261738"},{"text":"Tableware & cutlery","id":"THES48888"}],"styles":[],"collectionCode":{"text":"T&P","id":"THES48602"},"images":["2017KL4869"],"imageResolution":"low","galleryLocations":[{"current":{"text":"004","id":"THES355446"},"free":"","case":"","shelf":"","box":""}],"partTypes":[[{"text":"plate","id":""}]],"contentWarnings":[{"apprise":"","note":""}],"placesOfOrigin":[{"place":{"text":"Denmark","id":"x28806"},"association":{"text":"made","id":"x28654"},"note":""}],"productionDates":[{"date":{"text":"ca.1955","earliest":"1950-01-01","latest":"1959-12-31"},"association":{"text":"made","id":"x28654"},"note":""}],"associatedObjects":[{"object":{"text":"S.91-2007","id":"O134259"},"association":"Object"},{"object":{"text":"S.92-2007","id":"O134258"},"association":"Object"}],"creditLine":"Antony Hippisley Coxe Collection","dimensions":[{"dimension":"Diameter","value":"18.0","unit":"cm","qualifier":"","date":{"text":"","earliest":null,"latest":null},"part":"","note":""},{"dimension":"Height","value":"0.2","unit":"cm","qualifier":"","date":{"text":"","earliest":null,"latest":null},"part":"from base to rim","note":""}],"dimensionsNote":"","marksAndInscriptions":[{"content":"'Bjorn Wiinblad'","inscriber":{"name":{"text":"","id":""},"association":{"text":"","id":""}},"date":{"text":"","earliest":null,"latest":null},"description":"","interpretation":"","language":"","medium":"","method":"","position":"","script":"","translation":"","transliteration":"","type":"","note":"Signed in blue ink on base"},{"content":"'NYMOLLE DENMARK DEK 64'","inscriber":{"name":{"text":"","id":""},"association":{"text":"","id":""}},"date":{"text":"","earliest":null,"latest":null},"description":"","interpretation":"","language":"","medium":"","method":"","position":"","script":"","translation":"","transliteration":"","type":"","note":"On base with urn symbol of the Nymolle factory"}],"objectHistory":"","historicalContext":"","briefDescription":"Plate designed by Bjorn Wiinblad (1918-2006) featuring an image of a trapeze artist, Nymolle Factory, ca.1955.
