Educated in Bombay.  Protégé of Abbas Mirza, son and heir of Fath Ali Shah of Persia (1797-1834). Travelled with, as interpreter, Sir Robert Ker Porter in Persia, Iraq and Turkey, 1818-19.  From c.1820 engaged in commercial enterprises between London, Turkey and Persia, until death of Abbas Mirza c.1835.  Died, heavily in debt, 1842.  (See W. R. Holmes, Sketches on the Shores of the Caspian, 1845, pp.13-16; Sir R. Ker Porter, Travels in Georgia..., 1821-2, Vol.I, pp.251-2, Vol.II, p.768.). This painting is possibly the Three Persian Heads, lot 628, in Hayter's Studio Sale. For other portraits of Saith Satoor see two sheets of sketches by Hayter in the Museum and Art Gallery, Bolton, one dated 1826 April. 27. and showing him seated with the artist at his easel  (see photocopies in Searight Archive); also SP.345 by R.
