She wrote the majority of the twenty-three Original Peter Rabbit Books between 1901 and 1913. The Tale of Peter Rabbit (Frederick Warne, 1902) is her most famous and best-loved tale. \r\n\r\nThe woodland scene on the front of this sheet of card is dated 22nd September 1903, when Beatrix Potter spent time making drawings at Fawe Park, Keswick, on the north-western side of Derwentwater in the Lake District. She made numerous studies in preparation for The Tale of Benjamin Bunny during this visit to the Lake District, as well as various other studies. Potter’s keen interest in natural history is reflected by her study of the tree roots and the surrounding plants, which include clover. Another study made on the back of the same sheet of card shows a tree hollow: tree hollows feature in some of Potter’s books, including The Tale of Squirrel Nutkin (Frederick Warne & Co., 1903). \r\n","physicalDescription":"Watercolour, pen and ink and pencil drawing of a woodland scene (recto) and a tree hole (verso).","artistMakerPerson":[{"name":{"text":"Potter, Beatrix","id":"A18000"},"association":{"text":"made","id":"AAT251917"},"note":""}],"artistMakerOrganisations":[],"artistMakerPeople":[],"materials":[{"text":"ink","id":"AAT15012"},{"text":"pencil","id":"x30347"},{"text":"card","id":"x30344"},{"text":"watercolour (paint)","id":"AAT15045"}],"techniques":[{"text":"watercolour painting (technique)","id":"THES250889"}],"materialsAndTechniques":"Watercolour, pen and ink and pencil on card","categories":[{"text":"Drawings","id":"THES48966"},{"text":"Watercolours","id":"THES277714"},{"text":"Landscapes","id":"THES250800"},{"text":"Woman Artist","id":"THES387590"},{"text":"Tourism & Travel","id":"THES250702"}],"styles":[{"text":"British","id":"AAT111159"}],"collectionCode":{"text":"PDP","id":"THES48595"},"images":["2026PM8135","2026PM8136"],"imageResolution":"low","galleryLocations":[{"current":{"text":"LVLE","id":"THES49657"},"free":"","case":"SK TEMP 9b","shelf":"","box":""}],"partTypes":[[{"text":"watercolour (painting)","id":"AAT78925"}]],"contentWarnings":[{"apprise":"No","note":""},{"apprise":"","note":""},{"apprise":"","note":""}],"placesOfOrigin":[{"place":{"text":"Lake District","id":"x35878"},"association":{"text":"made","id":"x28654"},"note":""},{"place":{"text":"Great Britain","id":"x32019"},"association":{"text":"made","id":"x28654"},"note":""}],"productionDates":[{"date":{"text":"22 September 1903","earliest":"1903-09-22","latest":"1903-09-22"},"association":{"text":"made","id":"x28654"},"note":""}],"associatedObjects":[],"creditLine":"Linder Bequest [plus object number; written on labels on the same line as the object number]","dimensions":[{"dimension":"Height","value":"24","unit":"cm","qualifier":"","date":{"text":"","earliest":null,"latest":null},"part":"","note":""},{"dimension":"Width","value":"30","unit":"cm","qualifier":"","date":{"text":"","earliest":null,"latest":null},"part":"","note":""}],"dimensionsNote":"","marksAndInscriptions":[],"objectHistory":"Drawn by Beatrix Potter while staying at Fawe Park, 22 September 1903.
