The lid has an overhanging portion attached to each side. The base of the coffer is moulded. To the front are fixed five heart-shaped drop handles, side by side, each pierced with tracery and attached to plates, also pierced. On each side of the coffer is a large drop handle with baluster shaped bar and curved ends attached to pierced plates. The lock plate and catch are both decorated with arcades and from each corner of the former projects a pierced plate. Inside are two long hinge bands each pierced with a vase and tracery and a large band in the middle, similarly ornamented, which is connected with the catch of the lock. The upper edge of the coffer is inlaid with corner pieces pierced with tracery. The pierced ironwork is placed over red velvet in sunk panels. The angles of the coffer are dovetailed.
