This collage has at the centre a postcard with a view in the Lake District, Atkinson's native landscape. The postcard shows Great Gable and Wasdale Head, popular tourist attractions in the area. Each of the painted lines - which echo the blues, greens and ochres of the view - radiates out from the features of the landscape, continuing in diagrammatic form the contours of the land. Each line is labelled with words or phrases which set this idyllic landscape in the context of the area's invisible but pervasive ecomonic and social problems - poverty, unemployment, lack of affordable housing, and so on.","physicalDescription":"A collage with a picture postcard at the centre of a sheet of cream paper, overpainted with coloured lines in gouache radiating out from the features of the landscape: hills, road etc","artistMakerPerson":[{"name":{"text":"Atkinson, Conrad","id":"A6827"},"association":{"text":"artist","id":"AAT25103"},"note":""}],"artistMakerOrganisations":[],"artistMakerPeople":[],"materials":[{"text":"paper","id":"x30308"},{"text":"gouache","id":"AAT70114"},{"text":"wash","id":"AAT11051"}],"techniques":[],"materialsAndTechniques":"Postcard, gouache and wash on paper","categories":[{"text":"Drawings","id":"THES48966"}],"styles":[],"collectionCode":{"text":"PDP","id":"THES48595"},"images":["2007BR1812"],"imageResolution":"high","galleryLocations":[{"current":{"text":"WS","id":"THES49603"},"free":"","case":"R","shelf":"108","box":"R"}],"partTypes":[[{"text":"drawing","id":""}]],"contentWarnings":[{"apprise":"","note":""}],"placesOfOrigin":[{"place":{"text":"UK","id":"x29336"},"association":{"text":"made","id":"x28654"},"note":""}],"productionDates":[{"date":{"text":"1980","earliest":"1980-01-01","latest":"1980-12-31"},"association":{"text":"made","id":"x28654"},"note":""}],"associatedObjects":[],"creditLine":"","dimensions":[{"dimension":"Height","value":"38.4","unit":"cm","qualifier":"","date":{"text":"","earliest":null,"latest":null},"part":"","note":""},{"dimension":"Width","value":"54.2","unit":"cm","qualifier":"","date":{"text":"","earliest":null,"latest":null},"part":"","note":""}],"dimensionsNote":"","marksAndInscriptions":[{"content":"Landscape Conrad Atkinson 1980","inscriber":{"name":{"text":"","id":""},"association":{"text":"","id":""}},"date":{"text":"","earliest":null,"latest":null},"description":"","interpretation":"","language":"","medium":"","method":"","position":"","script":"","translation":"","transliteration":"","type":"","note":"Title, signature and date, in pencil"}],"objectHistory":"","historicalContext":"","briefDescription":"Conrad Atkinson:' Landscape', postcard, gouache and wash; United Kingdom, 1980","bibliographicReferences":[],"production":"","productionType":{"text":"","id":""},"contentDescription":"","contentPlaces":[],"associatedPlaces":[],"contentPerson":[],"associatedPerson":[],"contentOrganisations":[],"associatedOrganisations":[],"contentPeople":[],"associatedPeople":[],"contentEvents":[],"associatedEvents":[],"contentOthers":[{"text":"landscape","id":"x35496"}],"contentConcepts":[],"contentLiteraryRefs":[],"galleryLabels":[{"text":"This collage centres on a postcard view taken in the Lake District, a popular tourist destination.
