The drawings are individually subtitled with terms taken from the Compulsory Purchase Order issued by the London Borough of Tower Hamlets in 2013: The Order Land; The Scheme; The Enabling Power; The Justification. Brennan describes making the drawings through ‘playful processes’ that blur the line between fact and imagination and focus on the physicality of the demolition process. The highly accomplished technique and the subject matter of the drawings are typical of Brennan’s work, which often focusses on sites of contradiction, where inhabitants are affected by circumstances beyond their control. The detailed rendering is reminiscent of the meticulous treatment of vanitas subjects and imparts the elegiac quality of a momento mori.","physicalDescription":"","artistMakerPerson":[{"name":{"text":"Brennan, Jessie","id":"AUTH337736"},"association":{"text":"","id":""},"note":""}],"artistMakerOrganisations":[],"artistMakerPeople":[],"materials":[{"text":"paper","id":"x30308"},{"text":"pencil","id":"x30347"}],"techniques":[{"text":"Drawing","id":"x32498"}],"materialsAndTechniques":"Pencil on paper","categories":[],"styles":[],"collectionCode":{"text":"PDP","id":"THES48595"},"images":["2016JR1236"],"imageResolution":"low","galleryLocations":[{"current":{"text":"WE001","id":"THES413465"},"free":"","case":"","shelf":"","box":""},{"current":{"text":"WE001","id":"THES413465"},"free":"","case":"","shelf":"","box":""}],"partTypes":[[{"text":"drawing","id":"x32498"}],[{"text":"Frame","id":"x36344"}]],"contentWarnings":[{"apprise":"","note":""}],"placesOfOrigin":[{"place":{"text":"Robin Hood Gardens","id":"THES274075"},"association":{"text":"","id":""},"note":""}],"productionDates":[{"date":{"text":"2014","earliest":"2014-01-01","latest":"2014-12-31"},"association":{"text":"","id":""},"note":""}],"associatedObjects":[],"creditLine":"","dimensions":[{"dimension":"Height","value":"50","unit":"cm","qualifier":"","date":{"text":"","earliest":null,"latest":null},"part":"","note":""},{"dimension":"Width","value":"64","unit":"cm","qualifier":"adebenedetti","date":{"text":"8/12/2016","earliest":"2016-12-08","latest":"2016-12-08"},"part":"","note":"Frame: 57.5 x 71.5 cm"}],"dimensionsNote":"","marksAndInscriptions":[],"objectHistory":"","historicalContext":"","briefDescription":"Drawing, 'A Fall of  Ordinariness and Light: The Justification', by Jessie Brennan, pencil on paper, 2014 ","bibliographicReferences":[{"reference":{"text":"","id":""},"details":"","free":"Jessie Brennan, 'Robin Hood Gardens and the politics of regeneration', <i>Apollo Magazine</i> (August 2015)"}],"production":"","productionType":{"text":"","id":""},"contentDescription":"","contentPlaces":[],"associatedPlaces":[],"contentPerson":[],"associatedPerson":[],"contentOrganisations":[],"associatedOrganisations":[],"contentPeople":[],"associatedPeople":[],"contentEvents":[],"associatedEvents":[],"contentOthers":[],"contentConcepts":[],"contentLiteraryRefs":[],"galleryLabels":[],"partNumbers":["E.2751-2016","E.2751:1-2016"],"accessionNumberNum":"2751","accessionNumberPrefix":"E","accessionYear":2016,"otherNumbers":[],"copyNumber":"","aspects":["WHOLE"],"assets":[],"recordModificationDate":"2026-01-15","recordCreationDate":"2016-01-25","availableToBook":false}}
