She wrote the majority of the twenty-three Original Peter Rabbit Books between 1901 and 1913. The Tale of Peter Rabbit (Frederick Warne, 1902) is her most famous and best-loved tale. \r\n\r\nBefore her marriage in 1913, Beatrix Potter accompanied her parents on extended summer holidays and she often took the opportunity to sketch the places she visited. From 1885 the family regularly spent their summers at Lingholm near Keswick, where Potter made drawings of the parkland and the lake, Derwentwater. This pencil drawing of a path through meadows to woodland and a mountain is dated 15th September 1904, which coincides with a stay at Lingholm. It appears to be a view of Lingholm woods seen in front of Catbells, the mountain where the title character’s home is located in Potter’s book ‘The Tale of Mrs Tiggy-winkle’ (Frederick Warne & Co., 1905). \r\n","physicalDescription":"A landscape drawing showing a path through meadows, with trees in the midground and a mountain in the background.","artistMakerPerson":[{"name":{"text":"Beatrix Potter","id":"A18000"},"association":{"text":"artist","id":"AAT25103"},"note":""}],"artistMakerOrganisations":[],"artistMakerPeople":[],"materials":[{"text":"pencil","id":"x30347"},{"text":"paper","id":"x30308"},{"text":"paper (fiber product)","id":"AAT14109"}],"techniques":[{"text":"drawn","id":"x30545"}],"materialsAndTechniques":"pencil on paper","categories":[{"text":"Drawings","id":"THES48966"},{"text":"Landscapes","id":"THES250800"},{"text":"Woman Artist","id":"THES387590"},{"text":"Tourism & Travel","id":"THES250702"}],"styles":[{"text":"British","id":"AAT111159"}],"collectionCode":{"text":"PDP","id":"THES48595"},"images":["2019LY0154","2015HX5689"],"imageResolution":"low","galleryLocations":[{"current":{"text":"015","id":"THES317977"},"free":"","case":"","shelf":"","box":""}],"partTypes":[[{"text":"drawing","id":"x32498"}]],"contentWarnings":[{"apprise":"","note":""}],"placesOfOrigin":[{"place":{"text":"Lingholm","id":"x40750"},"association":{"text":"drawn","id":"x30545"},"note":""}],"productionDates":[{"date":{"text":"15th September 1904","earliest":"1904-09-15","latest":"1904-09-15"},"association":{"text":"drawn","id":"x30545"},"note":""}],"associatedObjects":[],"creditLine":"Linder Bequest [plus object number; written on labels on the same line as the object number]","dimensions":[{"dimension":"Height","value":"210","unit":"mm","qualifier":"","date":{"text":"","earliest":null,"latest":null},"part":"sheet","note":""},{"dimension":"Width","value":"267","unit":"mm","qualifier":"","date":{"text":"","earliest":null,"latest":null},"part":"sheet","note":""}],"dimensionsNote":"","marksAndInscriptions":[{"content":"'Sept. 15. 04'","inscriber":{"name":{"text":"","id":""},"association":{"text":"","id":""}},"date":{"text":"","earliest":null,"latest":null},"description":"","interpretation":"","language":"","medium":"","method":"","position":"","script":"","translation":"","transliteration":"","type":"","note":"Inscribed in pencil by the artist, lower left.
