His jewellery takes language – either single letters akin to printers’ type or spiralling words and phrases - as its main focus. His recent work has started to incorporate photographic images of Glasgow’s urban environment, exploring ‘how language and environment overlap and the effect modern advertising and information overload has on our daily reality’.\n\r\nThis brooch ‘ALL MY OWN WORDS AND THOUGHTS’ unites the two strands of language and environment, the photographic image reinforced by the creation of letters adapted from familiar symbols of branding and advertisements. ","physicalDescription":"Flat, circular brooch on which a photographic image of a streetscene has been printed in black and white, and from which (in the lower right quarter) protrude three cast rings of what resemble extruded printers' type. The letters, adaptations of ones familiar from branding, spell out in rings 'all my own words and thoughts'. The silver is oxidised except for the printed image and the surfaces of the letters. A double pin attaches horizontally at the back.","artistMakerPerson":[{"name":{"text":"Jonathan Boyd","id":"AUTH337219"},"association":{"text":"designed and made by","id":"x28674"},"note":""}],"artistMakerOrganisations":[],"artistMakerPeople":[],"materials":[{"text":"silver","id":"AAT11029"},{"text":"oxidised silver","id":"x42399"},{"text":"steel","id":"AAT133751"}],"techniques":[{"text":"photography","id":"AAT162056"},{"text":"casting","id":"AAT53113"}],"materialsAndTechniques":"Silver with applied photographic image and cast detailing","categories":[{"text":"Jewellery","id":"THES48930"},{"text":"Metalwork","id":"THES48920"}],"styles":[],"collectionCode":{"text":"MET","id":"THES48599"},"images":["2016HY5552","2016HY5553"],"imageResolution":"high","galleryLocations":[{"current":{"text":"VADunScotDesGal","id":"THES281347"},"free":"","case":"","shelf":"","box":""}],"partTypes":[[{"text":"Brooch","id":"AAT45995"}]],"contentWarnings":[{"apprise":"","note":""}],"placesOfOrigin":[{"place":{"text":"Glasgow","id":"x28891"},"association":{"text":"made","id":"x28654"},"note":""}],"productionDates":[{"date":{"text":"2015","earliest":"2015-01-01","latest":"2015-12-31"},"association":{"text":"made","id":"x28654"},"note":""}],"associatedObjects":[],"creditLine":"Given by Jacqueline and Jonathan Gestetner ","dimensions":[{"dimension":"Height","value":"66","unit":"mm","qualifier":"","date":{"text":"","earliest":null,"latest":null},"part":"","note":""},{"dimension":"Width","value":"67","unit":"mm","qualifier":"","date":{"text":"","earliest":null,"latest":null},"part":"","note":""},{"dimension":"Height","value":"32","unit":"mm","qualifier":"","date":{"text":"","earliest":null,"latest":null},"part":"","note":""}],"dimensionsNote":"","marksAndInscriptions":[{"content":"all my own words and thoughts\r\nKFC / BOX MEAL / BACK FOR CHRISTMAS","inscriber":{"name":{"text":"","id":""},"association":{"text":"","id":""}},"date":{"text":"","earliest":null,"latest":null},"description":"","interpretation":"","language":"","medium":"","method":"","position":"","script":"","translation":"","transliteration":"","type":"","note":"hallmarked: JMB, lion passant, 925, leopard's head, q"}],"objectHistory":"","historicalContext":"","briefDescription":"Brooch 'All my own words and thoughts', silver, designed and made by Jonathan Boyd, Scotland 2015","bibliographicReferences":[],"production":"","productionType":{"text":"","id":""},"contentDescription":"","contentPlaces":[],"associatedPlaces":[],"contentPerson":[],"associatedPerson":[],"contentOrganisations":[],"associatedOrganisations":[],"contentPeople":[],"associatedPeople":[],"contentEvents":[],"associatedEvents":[],"contentOthers":[],"contentConcepts":[],"contentLiteraryRefs":[],"galleryLabels":[],"partNumbers":["M.3-2016"],"accessionNumberNum":"3","accessionNumberPrefix":"M","accessionYear":2016,"otherNumbers":[],"copyNumber":"","aspects":["WHOLE"],"assets":["2018KP6585"],"recordModificationDate":"2025-04-12","recordCreationDate":"2015-11-24","availableToBook":false}}
