She wrote the majority of the twenty-three Original Peter Rabbit Books between 1901 and 1913. The Tale of Peter Rabbit (Frederick Warne, 1902) is her most famous and best-loved tale. \r\n\r\nFollowing her purchase of Hill Top in the Lake District in 1905 Beatrix Potter made many studies of the Lakeland landscape in all seasons. This watercolour study shows the road to Esthwaite Water, Beatrix Potter’s favourite lake, which was close to Hill Top. Her lively brushstrokes and use of a wet-in-wet technique are here combined with a vivid palette to capture a sense of the autumn landscape. \r\n","physicalDescription":"Watercolour over pencil study of the road to Esthwaite Water from Sawrey village, with a rough pencil sketch of mountains on the verso.","artistMakerPerson":[{"name":{"text":"Potter, Beatrix","id":"A18000"},"association":{"text":"artist","id":"AAT25103"},"note":""}],"artistMakerOrganisations":[],"artistMakerPeople":[],"materials":[{"text":"pencil","id":"x30347"},{"text":"paper (fiber product)","id":"AAT14109"},{"text":"watercolour (paint)","id":"AAT15045"}],"techniques":[{"text":"watercolour painting (technique)","id":"THES250889"},{"text":"drawing","id":"x32498"}],"materialsAndTechniques":"Watercolour and pencil on paper.","categories":[{"text":"Drawings","id":"THES48966"},{"text":"Landscapes","id":"THES250800"},{"text":"Watercolours","id":"THES277714"},{"text":"Woman Artist","id":"THES387590"}],"styles":[{"text":"British","id":"AAT111159"}],"collectionCode":{"text":"PDP","id":"THES48595"},"images":["2019LM3751","2019LM3763"],"imageResolution":"low","galleryLocations":[{"current":{"text":"016","id":"THES317978"},"free":"","case":"","shelf":"","box":""}],"partTypes":[[{"text":"watercolour (painting)","id":"AAT78925"}],[{"text":"drawing","id":"x32498"}]],"contentWarnings":[{"apprise":"","note":""},{"apprise":"","note":""},{"apprise":"","note":""}],"placesOfOrigin":[{"place":{"text":"Esthwaite Water","id":"x45929"},"association":{"text":"","id":""},"note":""}],"productionDates":[{"date":{"text":"15th November 1909","earliest":"1909-11-15","latest":"1909-11-15"},"association":{"text":"made","id":"x28654"},"note":""}],"associatedObjects":[],"creditLine":"Linder Bequest [plus object number; written on labels on the same line as the object number]","dimensions":[{"dimension":"Height","value":"25","unit":"cm","qualifier":"","date":{"text":"","earliest":null,"latest":null},"part":"","note":""},{"dimension":"Width","value":"17.5","unit":"cm","qualifier":"","date":{"text":"","earliest":null,"latest":null},"part":"","note":""}],"dimensionsNote":"","marksAndInscriptions":[],"objectHistory":"Drawn by Beatrix Potter, 15th November 1909.
