She wrote the majority of the twenty-three Original Peter Rabbit Books between 1901 and 1913. The Tale of Peter Rabbit (Frederick Warne, 1902) is her most famous and best-loved tale. \r\n\r\nBefore her marriage in 1913, Beatrix Potter accompanied her family on extended summer holidays and she often took the opportunity to sketch the places she visited. From 1885 the family spent numerous summers staying near Derwentwater in the Lake District, where this view of mountains seen from the opposite side of the lake was made. \r\n","physicalDescription":"A watercolour study on a small sheet showing an expanse of lake and the opposite shore, with mountains beyond.
