She wrote the majority of the twenty-three Original Peter Rabbit Books between 1901 and 1913.  The Tale of Peter Rabbit (Frederick Warne, 1902) is her most famous and best-loved tale.  \r\n\r\nThis pencil sketch shows a view of a valley with mountains. The distant hills are somewhat reminiscent of those that make up the Newlands Round of mountains in the Lake District, so it is possible that this drawing is a view of the Newlands Valley. Beatrix Potter made a number of drawings of the Newlands Valley during stays in the Lake District and it formed the setting for her book The Tale of Mrs Tiggy-Winkle (published by Frederick Warne & Co. 1905). On the back of the sheet there is a pencil and watercolour sketch of an iris, reflecting Beatrix Potter’s interest in making closely observed studies of flowers and plants.
