Born in Wandsworth Common, London, in 1872, Romney Green graduated with a mathematics degree from Cambridge University and incorporated an ordered geometrical approach to his furniture making as can be seen in the parquetry design on the doors of this cabinet.\n\nDuring the First World War, Romney Green oversaw the production of aircraft propellers. In 1919, he established a workshop in Christchurch, Hampshire and employed apprentices and experienced craftsmen including Stanley Webb Davies (1894-1978) and Eric Sharpe (1888-1966). From 1926, Green was a member of the Arts &amp; Crafts Exhibition Society and displayed his work at international exhibitions in Paris, Milan and St Louis, as well as the New Handworkers Gallery, London.
