The group promoted the theory of ‘natural synthesis’, a concept that merged the best of the indigenous art traditions, forms and ideas with those from the West. The paintings and sculptures of the Zaria Art Society incorporated cosmology, folklore and Nigerian philosophy, together with depictions of everyday life in Nigeria.
